SONYA PAZ, LOCAL ARTIST, SELECTED TO DESIGN PALO ALTO FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS POSTER

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 9, 2004 - Sonya Paz, a Bay Area artist, was commissioned by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and MLA Productions to create the Festival poster artwork for use on t-shirts, posters, postcards and flyers. The Palo Alto Festival of the Arts now in its 22nd year will occur in Palo Alto on August 28 and 29.

Sonya Paz was selected to create the design and artwork for the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts because we were inspired by her colorful and exuberant style of art, which clearly represents the innovative and vibrant nature of our community and the collection of artists participating in the Festival, said Sandra Lonnquist, CEO of the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce.

Paz has been creating her colorful acrylic cubistic style popish paintings for over five years. I am deeply honored to be selected as the artist behind the design to represent the Palo Alto Festival this year, said Sonya Paz. In creating my paintings, I get my energy and inspiration from my California roots and my day-to-day enjoyment with life.

Paz will be signing the Palo Alto Festival posters at the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce's booth on Saturday, August 28, and Sunday, August 29, between 2:00 and 3:00 pm both days. Paz will be exhibiting her artwork in booth #331 during the Festival.

Sponsored by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and the City of Palo Alto, the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts is recognized as a high quality, community-friendly art event. In the past, the Palo Alto Festival has attracted more than 100,000 people every year from throughout California and the West Coast. The backbone of the festival and the key to its success are the 300 fine artists and crafters whose display booths are placed back-to-back along University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. Special attractions include a kids' art and crafts area, three major music venues, and the Italian Street Painting Expo.

Admission to the Palo Alto Festival is complimentary. Hours are from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more information, visit the Festival website at: http://www.mlaproductions.com/pa_home.html
