SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 10, 2005 - Sonya Paz, a Santa Clara-based artist, and Tim Schaible, a Petaluma-based artist, are partnering with Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) to offer a unique event for those who love art and animals. "Art by the Pound" will feature animals available for adoption though HSSV and artwork from Sonya and Tim.
"Art by the Pound" will be held at the Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery (www.sonyapaz.com), which is located at 1793 Lafayette Street, Suite 110, in Santa Clara on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, October 16 from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A percentage of the proceeds will go directly to HSSV. The special exhibit will continue to be displayed at the Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery until October 22.
"We are so pleased to be working with these talented artists, and truly appreciate their support of our animal community," said Christine Benninger, President of Humane Society Silicon Valley. "We partner with veterinary professionals, government leaders, and a broad range of animal advocacy groups to increase the number of animals adopted into new homes and decrease the number of animals who become homeless."
Sonya Paz and Tim Schaible said, "We both hold a deep affection for animals, and we felt that our partnership provided a perfect opportunity to give something back to the animal community." Tim added, "Sonya's designs and my art are complementary, so we thought this would be a worthwhile event to host, and her gallery just happened to be right around the block from the pound."
"Animals are one of the many causes I support, and having partnered recently with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, I was inspired to do something creative locally that would help to provide homes for animals in need," said Sonya.

Sonya's paintings and vivid images are a reflection of her California roots and her love for life. Sonya is a native Californian and lives in San Jose. Her positive, creative attitude and passionate expression represent an optimistic view of the world. The Cubist movement and American Pop Art inspire her bold and vibrant works of art. Seasoned by traveling the world to study art and its history. Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, Modernism and Surrealism. These combined influences can be seen in much of her work, where traditional styles compete with energetic pop art images of the past 25 years.
Sonya has donated art and worked with many charities to raise funds. In the summer 2005, she partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to design a watch called "Passionate Survivor." Only 250 of these watches were created. Sonya's watch line, "art, captured in time," features five faces of her colorful Modern Pop Art in a genuine leather band, available in five colors.
In December 2004, Sonya opened her own fine art gallery in Santa Clara, Calif., and her works are represented in major galleries across the United States. Sonya's art is also featured at many distinctive wineries in Northern California, including Sonoma, Napa, Alameda and Monterey Counties. She is working on an exclusive label for a Livermore Valley Winery, "el Sol." Her work is also displayed at wineries from Oregon to Maine.
Sonya is a member and recently elected Vice President of the Artists Guild of San Francisco. Over the past few years, her art has been exhibited at a number of venues. These include MJ Shaer Gallery in Napa, Gordon Biersch, Effusion Gallery in Miami, and International Artexpo in New York City. For further information, visit Sonya Paz Fine Art at: www.sonyapaz.com.
Tim hails from upstate New York. He studied painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, but moved on to the corporate world, where he worked for more than 20 years as a successful art director and designer. He created ads for newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Vogue and House & Garden. After working in New York, he and his wife, Deborah Walton, moved to Santa Rosa, to establish the Genus Group as co-owners.
In 1993, Tim made the decision to step away from advertising and return to his first love of painting, bringing his natural aesthetic for creating emotionally charged visuals to life through the brush. He immersed himself in art history and worked to develop his own distinct style. While in school, he had learned how to paint realistically and followed in the Impressionist tradition. At this turning point in his career, Tim realized he wanted to work in a more abstract realm. Tim likes to work on a dozen paintings at one time, allowing layers to dry while progressing with the other paintings. His brush stroke technique results in a unique style conveying a feeling of movement on the canvas.
Tim's art can be seen in galleries across America and the Cayman Islands. His paintings are displayed in juried art shows and festivals in Sausalito, Palo Alto, San Francisco and Sonoma. His clientele include private collectors and corporate collections.
Five years ago, Tim and his wife moved from Santa Rosa to a 28-acre ranch adjacent to the Coast Guard Station in Two Rock. They established "Canvas Ranch," which symbolizes the blank canvas they purchased. His studio is located in a large barn on the ranch. Tim works full-time as a painter.
