SONYA PAZ, BAY AREA ARTIST, COMMISSIONED TO DESIGN ARTISTIC THEME FOR BALDWIN PARK SUMMER MUSIC SERIES

Sonya is the First Artist the City has ever asked to Design Artwork for the Series; “Celebrating Music and Fun” is the Featured Artwork

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 13, 2005 Sonya Paz, a Santa Clara-based artist, was commissioned by the City of Baldwin Park, a suburb near Los Angeles, to design this year’s featured artwork for its weekly summer concert series, held from June 23 to August 25. Sonya will appear at the Festival on August 11th and will be introduced to the audience as the official artist for the series. This is the first year that the city of Baldwin Park in its 11-year history commissioned an artist to design an original piece of artwork to reflect the theme of the series.

The City of Baldwin Park is using Sonya’s artwork for posters, billboards, postcards, and promotional collateral. Her art is prominently featured on the cover of the City’s Summer Recreation Guide. More than 1,500 people typically attend the concert series each week. The city named its series “Celebrating Music and Fun” after Sonya’s artwork. View the painting.

"We were ecstatic that Sonya was available to create this original design for us,” said Inez Alvarez, program coordinator for recreation and community services with the City of Baldwin Park. “We loved the colors and images of Sonya’s artwork because it makes you smile. When we discovered Sonya’s art, her vibrant colors really stood out along with her designs showcasing musical instruments; it was ideal for our concert series.”

Sonya will be introduced as the featured artist to audience attendees on Thursday, August 11, in Baldwin Park. “I really enjoyed creating this particular design because it brings together the things I love music and fun,” said Sonya Paz. “I am honored they asked me to create an original design for the series. Designing a theme around music speaks to my heart and it was a joy to create.”

Seasoned by traveling the world to study art and its history. Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, Modernism and Surrealism.
